"I'm going to see
       if we can save
    you a trip out there.”

With one hand tied behind your back?

“Very happy to help,” Kim assured the customer she knew as Lauren. “And you are so right about these handmade soaps making a nice gift. Who doesn't love getting something to pamper yourself with? We have the perfect tissue for a shower, if you’d like us to wrap them for you.”

“Oh, I wish I could,” Lauren explained, “but I have to drive out to the mall to get one more thing before I can wrap anything. I hate to go all the way out there, but she really likes the vitamin E moisturizer they have at The Body Shop.”

“Well,” Kim concurred, “there’s no doubt vitamin E is one the essentials. Do you know whether it’s the lotion or the cream she likes?”

“Hmmm, not really. I think it must be the cream though; I seem to remember she said she uses it at night.” Lauren guessed.

“While you are deciding which soaps she’d like,” Kim suggested, “I'm going to see if we can save you a trip out there, okay?”

Lauren resisted asking the obvious question as Kim smiled and hurried away.

Moments later, Kim returned, presenting a pot of organic vitamin E nourishing night cream. “Lauren if you’d really rather not make a special trip to The Body Shop, I did some checking, and our night cream has the same ingredients as theirs; glycerin, vitamin E and cocoa butter.”

“Oh how great!” Lauren smiled, “saves me a trip and means I can have you wrap it for me. Thank you!”

“Thank YOU. We appreciate your business.” Kim replied, as she and her customer started toward the cash wrap.

How did she do that?

Like most workers in a well-managed store, Kim honestly wants to make both her customers and her employer happy.

Skin Care & Cosmetics

The owners of the upscale skin care and grooming shop where Kim works know their store concept won’t work unless the employees have personalities that are totally consistent with their brand. The owners also know every store is a business, and it takes more than a winning personality to turn shoppers into customers.

To get the right balance of style and substance, workers are screened and hired for their personal qualities, and then stores are equipped with easy to use systems that give associates easy access to information about the hundreds of items they offer, and the tools they need to deliver a distinctive, satisfying customer experience.
